Local Search Marketing: Why Is It Important

Local Search is a Search Query that includes not only information about “what” the site visitor is searching for (such as keywords, a business category, or the name of a consumer product) but also “where” information, such as a street address, city name, postal code etc.

Here is a snap-shot of a results page. Local results are typically shown above top 10 results. So it is very important to show up on Local results with regular top 10 results for any website.

Local Listing

There are  32 billion unique searches done each month and 40% of those searches have local intent. That’s a lot of local searches so importance of local search can’t be ignored anymore. All major search engines have integrated local search including Google, Bing and Yahoo.

When local or neighborhood internet users are looking for a product or service in their area it’s usually because they are ready to buy something and they want to buy it now! On the top of that according marketing research done by Kelsey; 90 % of purchases are made within 50 miles of a person’s home. Local visibility mandatory for mom and pops and small businesses. Customers want to find doctors, lawyers, restaurants, plumbers, real-estate specialist, etc in their local area.

So no matter what type of business you have but if you want to attract customers, clients from local area. Make sure your site is optimized for Local Searches.

How Do You Optimize For Local Search :

First you need to build your website/page and then optimize your site for local search. You can use Title Tags, Local address etc to optimize your site. The next step is to create listing on Google Local Business Make sure when you create listing; you add main keyword in the title. Local Business will take you through all steps. Add photos and videos for your business and call  to action. Final step is to create listings in local directories like yelp, kudzu etc. Your goal is to get reviews from your existing customers. The more reviews you get it’s going to be better for showing your results on Local listings.

Search Engine Optimization: How Does SEO Work

ith so much competition on the internet; business owners are turning to search engine optimization to increase traffic to their website and getting to the top of Google. Search engine optimization increases the quality and amount of traffic to your website from search engines like Google, when using a proven system.

There are mainly two kinds of search results in any search engine:

• Sponsored Link/Pay Per Click
• Organic results

Sponsored Link/Pay per click is displayed much like an advertisement. (Shown Yellow in Picture) It is seen on the right side of your screen on a Google search engine page. You bid on Keywords or a search term for a specific amount per click by users searching your keywords. This form of search engine marketing drives traffic to your site quickly, but can be costly if you don’t choose your keywords correctly.

An organic search is when you search for a specific keyword or key phrases. (Green in Picture)

So Why is it important to be on the top of Google? According to Georgia Tech University about 50% of traffic comes from first two organic results. Not only have that 75% of traffic come from 1st Page. So it is very important to be on the first page of a search engine.

The most important factor is choosing right keyword. Check out Google’s Search Based Keyword Tool to find relevant keywords for your business.

You do have to build incoming links to your site and that brings us to next topic.

Off Page Optimization: Off page optimization is done through link building. More incoming links you have coming in from other high authority sites it’s better for your site. Also, creating content relevant to keywords you want to get optimized for also helps and distributing this content to high authority sites will bring you lots of quality and relevant links back to your website.

Both on page optimization and off page are important. Website owner should focus 25% time on On Page Optimization and other 75% of time on Off Page Optimization. You do not have to be an expert writer to write a PR about your product, service, or blog. Just be sure it’s newsworthy. The most important reason for writing a PR is to get search engine optimization.

Video Marketing

Create a video: You Tube is a video sharing site and can help you in the creation of a video. Video has become vital in online marketing and search engine optimization for businesses and creates a strong visual impression for potential clients. You can create a series of simple short “how-to” videos that provide information and refer people back to your website. Choosing an optimized title and tagging your videos with keywords that you want to get ranked for will drive traffic to your site while providing search engine optimization. Have you used slideshare.net? If not then you need to seriously think about using it. I’m so estatic with results I’ve achieved using slideshare.net in just 24 hours. I had uploaded my powerpoint presentation on slideshare.net on March 18th and within few hours I got an email from slideshare.net mentioning my slides being “featured” on How-to/DIY section on slideshare. Check out my presentation it’s a 3rd Presentation.

So far within 24 hours I’ve total of 74 Views and 12 downloads. I’m so excited with this results is that I’m going to do more testing on Slideshare.net and will figure out what is the conversion ratio for traffic who goes to slideshare.
